Sick dog, please help?

I think my dog is sick help please?

My dog keeps shaking and is acting wierd? Help I need a vet.?

My dog is a brittany spaniel and she is 2.5 (human) years old, and we got her hair cut yesturday, she keeps shaking really bad, like when she does during a storm, and we don't know why. My mom really thinks there is something wrong with her. Also her nose keeps running off and on. We just gave her a new bone that she never had ate before. We really need to know what is wrong with our dog please helpppppppppp. Thanks for answering

And please dont say take her to the vet, because I cant. I wish I could. The shaking is an ocasional activity. She was doing it like two weeks ago, and then she puked twice. It is cold by where her crate is at, but she is not in her crate, just at night, and isnt shaking then. Could she be cold, if she is what should we do?5 minutes ago also she has shook before during a storm, but like she was scared, this is different

If you are a vet or vet tech please email me so I can communicate back to you.

The reason I can not take her to the vet is that it is too late, and I will try to take her asap. if she doesnt get better, but I need your advice for now

Sick dog, please help?

My dog did that after I bathed her...somehow when I was getting her out of the tub she twisted her back...it pinched a nerve and I took her to the vet and he gave her some pain pills and she was fine. The shaking would re-occur and I would massage her back from the bass of her skull to her tail and she would relax and the shaking would go away. Try to keep your dog still if possible.

This went on for about 6 months and now she's as good as new.

The groomer might have accidentally done something which brought this problem on.

I don't think it's an allergic reaction to the bone, allergic reactions usually involve excessive saliva and anxious behavior..they act really weird and you definitely know something's wrong.

Call your vet now...they're like our human doctors they have a responsiblity to take care of our pets, Most vets take calls any time of the day.

Surely there is an after hours vet clinic in your area. Have you called the phone number for your vet to see if there is a message with an after hours number you can call for help or directions to a 24 hour clinic? It sounds like your dog needs to see a vet if she is shaking and throwing up. I wouldn't be so worried about a runny nose (my dog has a runny nose often and its due to season allergies - no big deal). At least make an effort to locate an area clinic that is open for emergencies.

Well sounds to me from what your saying she is haveing a bad reaction to this bone mostlikly it may even be an allergic reaction from the sounds of it I have a dog who has simular reactions to various things and i find the very best thing for him is benadryl (even the vet said it was a good idea) I use it now every time they (my 2 dogs) get sick now the size of your spaniel is smaller and the fact that she most likely has never had it i would only give a half of the pill (or dose) what you would give a child it will most likely knock her out but when she wakes she will be back to her old self I highly recommend it for a pre vet treatment if she is still haveing issues after trying this 2 x then deffentaly take her to the vet and as for telling her temp if her nose is hot or warm she may have a slight fever which the benadryl can help with as well if you want to take the temp and you have a basic thermomitor you will have to have one person hold her and the other hold in her behind but i have never had to do that since the benadryl has always been my pre vet savyour it really works and like i said a half an adult dose or a full child dose and she should be as right as rain when she wakes it will make her a lil groggy and slightly disorentated but thats what it does while fixing the allergic reaction like i said if that doesnt help for a cheep fix then take her to the vet but i am sure it should be fine.

I'm sure this is a long shot, but what type of bone did she get? I have read that rawhide that is not made in the US contains arsenic....one bone probably wouldn't cause any problems, but who knows.

I would try to locate an emergency vet, like others have suggested.

Good luck and I hope she's OK.

It sounds like she either was allergic to the new bone or is having some sort of reaction to the shampoo the groomer used, or is just traumitized by the grooming. Has she had grooming done before? You should call an emergency vet just to see what your options are

Unfortunately, the only advice I can give is to get her to the vet. Without a physical exam, no one can give you an idea what is going on. You are with her, and you're not sure, so how can we know?

There can be several reasons for the shaking. Is it like muscle tremors? Or more like a seizure? What else is she doing?

The possible reasons for her unusual behavior can range from pain, to a fever, to seizures. Without an exam, everything is a guess.

It is up to you to decide if this is serious enough for you to find an emergency clinic. You know her best If you elect to wait, then get her checked tomorrow at the latest. It sounds like this has happened a few times, so you need to make sure she is ok.

sorry I can't be more helpful, but I don't want to give you a wrong answer and have something worse happen. Good luck.

And to the person who recommended benadryl - why do you think that this will remotely help this dog? First of all, diphenhydramine is and antihistamine. It does not affect body temperature at all unless it is raised due to an allergic reaction. ( not really common) And half a childs dose would most likely not even be close to the dose that this dog needs if that were the problem. More like 2-3 times that dose.

My Irish water spaniel/lurcher, Elijah was the same when when i got him proffesionally clipped. He didn't recognise his reflection and I'd never seen a dog laugh, until my short haired older dog cast eyes on him.He went from a canine rug to a mini greyhound/overgrown whippet in an hour. He was miserable!

I ended up having to trim his wool myself and leave him with his beard

Sick dog, please help?

aww the poor thing.

I'm no vet nor vet tech so take this with a "grain of salt" but it sounds like she might have a cold (due to the runny nose and puking).

The shaking is actually fairly common in most small-breed dogs like Brittany's. You mentioned her hair was recently cut so she could be cold. Also, cutting their hair makes the dogs more sensitive to the touch (they don't have that big, furry cushion any more) so if she's not used to her hair being so short, she might just be scared of all these new sensations (just not used to them yet).

And of course, if she does have a cold, she might have a fever, so everything seems cold to her. If you can, take her temperature - anything below 99 degrees or above 102.5 degrees needs a veterinarian.

To take her temperature, use an oral or rectal thermometer (either way, it's got to be done rectally with dogs).

There's an awesome website for dog health info where the questions actually get answered by experts (although it takes a little time usually) I pasted the link below.

And doing a little digging around online, these symptoms could be the early stages of Distemper so you'll definately want to take her to a vet as soon as possible (I know it's not the answer you want, but it could be something serious)

Until you can get her in though, just do your best to keep her comfortable: if you have a heating pad, you may want to put it under her bed on low. Be sure she gets plenty to drink and that she's eating well (Nutri-Cal is a paste you can use if dogs won't eat any other way - just have her lick a bit off your finger, or put a dab or two in her mouth if she wont take it).

Since it's obvious she doesn't like loud noises (you mentioned, the storm) make sure the TV's not up loud and try to get her to play with her toys.

Hope this helps! Good luck to you both!!

Take care of her, keep her in opened warm place, give her liquid to compensate loss due to the flow
