Apes are a stronger species than humans and are better built for surviving the environment. I wonder why no thinks that humans could have taken up a stooped posture, grown more hair, and lessened their cognitive reasoning skills as a survival trait for survival conditioning.

Fossil record. Primitive apes are deeper in geological strata than early hominids.

Edit: They have not been found literally one on top of the other. This would be unlikely beside the fact they lived in different environments, but you can use relative dating.

You look at a column of sedimentary rock, the older stuff is on the bottom. In one area you have the layers, 1 2 3 4 5, all with clear divisions. Nearby you have 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11. Same pattern, but the first two layers are missing, probably eroded. A third area has 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13. This one goes deeper. You have an monkey fossil in layer 13, apes in both 7's, and human fossils are only found in layers 1. Which is older?

Not to mention you can also use radiometric dating to confirm this logical assumption.

If you assume the common ancestor of humans and apes was a human, then the features that distinguish humans from apes had to be lost three times -- once in the orangutangs, once in the gorillas, and once in the chimpanzees. It's much more parsimonious to assume that they appeared only after humans split off from the rest of the apes.

Also, apes appear in the fossil record millions of years before humans do.

Evolution theory does NOT say that humans evolved from apes. It says apes and humans evolved from a common ancestor (read Darwin:Origin of Species) - that species we nickname "the missing link". Therefore your question doesn't really make much sense.

If this were true the evidence would be in ape and human genotypes - but its not there. In fact the opposite case - ancient ape to ancient human - is evidenced.

Humans *are* apes.

Modern apes and humans all evolved from a common ancestor: they are cousins of each other, not ancestors.

Fossil evidence of the existance of such common ancestor species demonstrates that it was around before either modern apes or humans.

And humans are better at surviving in their environment. If gorillas were better at surviving than humans, we wouldn't be driving them to extinction.
