Why are dreadlocked people like Rasta or any other dreadlocked people shun away from todays society?

I know because I used to have my hair full of dreadlocks and was viewed as some type of animal and not a human being. It was really hard to get a job anywhare and talk to people :(. By the way my dreadlock were kept as hygenic as anyone's hair,so I didn't smell or anything.

God Bless.

Because people are very ignorant, if it was left up to Society, everyone would look exactly the same, Society is afraid of things that they dont know about, instead of them reading a book or asking about something its easier for them to shut it out completely. And then, check this out: They put EVERYONE that is different into one box and automatically assume that they are all the same as far everything negative they heard about that particular groups. Society is afraid of everything new, and quite frankly as a Jamaican speaking for Rastas that I know, it's ok that Society don't accept us because we are not here to be like Society, we are stronger than society and smarter than them too, because we see thing in a whole new light and only ONE can judge me and its NOT man/woman. So my friend, don't let society lead you astray cause at the end of the day you only have to deal with yourself,

Some people tend to think Rasta (as they are called) are bad. I personally think it is not so. My uncle is a Rasta and he is not bad at all. Some people think because you are a Rasta you only smoke weed all day and don't do nothing else. I know Rasta's that have some dam good educations and even hold top position in their companies. It is just how society sees them. If you listen to some Rasta's talk and really understand what they are saying we would all realize they are human just like us and have common knowledge just like us.

Most people hate what they don't understand , or anything that is different , and that's a shame

I know ...it's so sad - rastas are the BEST people on earth - they are so calm and mild and friendly - but the best part is that they are always happy !! They take care of one another and are the sweetest lovers!!

To let you all know - rastas and people with dreads are the CLEANEST people on earth - their dreads smell sooooo good and they take GREAT care of their bodies hygeine !! So ....peace to you all rastas out there ...one love and don't worry what other people think of you - ...it's THEM that have the problems !! One Love !!!

There really is a double standard when it comes to that. Dreadlocked people are rarely seen as public figures or have prominent positions. They are frowned upon by society, I guess because they (actually some) smoke marijuana. Rastas are usually placed in a box, where they are looked upon with disdain because of their beliefs and the way that they get their point across. Jamaica is a country of mainly christians, where they believe in Jesus Christ as their saviour therefore the leaders don't take kindly to Rastas proclaiming that Haile Selassie is God.

That is why I think they are often ostracised.

On the other hand of the spectrum, they use the rastafarian image to promote tourism and our culture. They even use Bob Marley's song "One Love" as the official theme song for tourism, who coincidentally was a rastafarian. Can the leaders or society get any more hypocritical than that?

i think people with locks are becoming more accepted however it is my view that there are too much people out there with just fashion locks.
