Grooming a Standard Poodle?

Does a standard Poodle do well with human shampoo and conditioner? I used my own hair products on my Standard and her coat came out clean, soft and manageable. Is there a downside to doing this?

The Standard Poodle may become Substandard if you use generic hair products on it. Please use only with approved products. Thank you for your cooperation.

Oh...yes. It could dry out his/her skin and make him/her pull out his/her fur. I have a toy(size) poodle and I was desperate to get her clean so I use my shampoo and conditioner. It's still horrible. She pulled out all the fur on her legs and I have to use moisturizer on her every day. It sucks. So now I use poodle shampoo...I think it's called Snowy Coat. When I can't wash her I take her to the groomers. It's easier.

Your dog should be fine as long as it's not for treated hair. I make a natural pet shampoo, (I should say a chemist) makes it for me. Many of the people who buy it have told me, they use it on their own hair and use the shampoo as a bubble bath too. So I'm sure your dog will be fine and smell great too! Take care;^)

Some dogs do fine with human shampoo. But in general I always say to use dog products. Human and dog PH is different. The skin may have issues if you keep on using human products.

There are some great salon quality dog shampoos and conditioners. I shop at http://petedge.com or http://drsfostersmith.com

Alway keep the coat well brushed also. Bathing without brushing can cause bad matts.
