Ok, I first heard of Marilyn Manson when I was 14 and I went and bought his "portrait of an American family" record. Then I was hooked....I own all of his music now and I'm 24. My parents hated him as well, but now that I'm older I think that the only reason is that Marilyn Manson aims to get people fired up. The unfortunate thing is that if people would actually listen to him they would realize he is an intelligent man, and actually has a good message. He just has a very "public nuisance" way of showing it.

My best advice is to do what I did, listen to him anyway, and when you're 24 like I am you can say "ha ha" I still like him and I didn't turn into a hell raising heathen!!

ok from a totally non religious non political standpoint i have two comments.

1. i like metal and his music was pretty rockin at times.

2. the whole manson 'scene' was ridiculous.

conclusion - shock rock. lots of little idiots with too many imagined 'issues' too little intelligence and no dress sense.

rebelling against norms - but just within the acceptable limits of the subgroup of course.

I think that it's all about shock value and getting attention - even if it is "bad" attention. Older people are taken aback and shocked - which is what is intended! It's that "teenage rebellion" thing, ya know!?

At first, I admit, I didn't know what to think either! But - if you just take the time to listen to the lyrics, you will find a lot of very insightful social commentary - and a lot that really makes quite good sense! You have to be willing to keep an open mind and give it some thought!

I don't think there's anything wrong with listening to him either - it is all in how you look at it and what conclusions you come to when you consider what the music is about.

It's just a mom thing. I use to get that all the time when Alice Cooper was at his best. When I was your age, Kiss was just getting popular. I used to have posters and all that stuff. I used to hear stuff all the time..."How can you listen to that?".Tell your mom it could be worse.

Maybe because most people consider him as somebody who instills evil (and hate) into our small world. I don't like him but a couple of my friends think he's a disturbed genius(genius:maybe-- disturbed:definitely)

It's quite hard to judge because of the media slamming him and everything. I mean when a saw an interview with him on T.V as was amazed that such an well-spoken man could have done such vulgar and stomach churning stuff.........

mm rocks. my kids have taken me to see him 3 times. he's eccentric, but aren't we all in our own way? he's a genius when it comes to marketing himself...at least he's stayed true to himself. i can't wait to see the alice in wonderland movie he's been working on.
