Why does religion cause so many problems?

Not only does religion fuel wars from time to time. Thats not saying that all wars are fueled by religion because many are simply not. But so much of the problems of this world would disappear if religion wasnt the way it is today.

The reason I criticise all religions even my own is because all religions lack a fundamental component necessary to have happy living and that is tolerance. The inability to accept somebody else's life and belief because mine are better than his.

In my own life I have chosen not to be as religious as my parents and its such a big deal for them that they see me as a disappointment. Imgaine if my family wasnt so entrenched in religion and they could see past my choices as a human being.

Maybe these fundamental islamists would see a human being in their cross-hairs instead of a infadel.

Maybe palestineans wouldnt kill jews and vice versa.

Maybe gay and lesbian people would have a right to love each other and not be ostraclized by their parents

the bible tells you to love Jesus (god) above all else, that it is OK to have your family split asunder for your faith, Jesus condoned this.

the frightening thing about religion is how it has instilled itself within society, even politics, just look at the Bush philosophy, he thinks he is a advocate of God, he makes decisions based on his religion, this is very worrying due to the fact that he sits aloft of the most powerful nation on the planet, one that has the power to eliminate the world as we know it. The world of religion is a scary place, one that I hope does not last, for with knowledge and open mindedness we can emancipate ourselves from this subjugation. The present seems grim, nothing but religious wars and political wars given religious meaning, thousands die at the hands of those fanatical fundamentalist, the ones that preach peace and forgiveness. the whole idea and doctrine of these religious organisations is hypocritical. religion teaches hate, no matter what denomination, it teaches ignorance and arrogance, only when the sheep wake up will the world be a better place. Until that day I feel it is our job to teach the blind to see.

Religion is an open wound, festering its foul bile out of itself, contaminating everything it comes across. It's a breeding ground for hate, so I choose no religion.

It is remarkable how people hold it in such high regards yet it does more damage than good.

Buddhism teaches "how to be tolerant of others" but most fear anything that is associated with Religion even though Buddhism is not a religion but a "way of life."

Belief is the reason for war, not religion. That belief could be in God, in Country, in King, in logic, anything. It is the violent defence of those beliefs that are the problems which is why Buddhist teach not to cling to their beliefs

This does not apply to all religions.

You haven't had many dealings with Wiccans, have you? Most Wiccans believe that ALL religions are potentially valid paths to the Divine, and that atheism and agnosticism are honorable perspectives on the mystery of life. For this reason, Wiccans do not prosyletize -- we have no need to convert others to our faith, since everyone is on their own path, and all religions are correct to their adherents.

Furthermore, since many Wiccans believe that all acts of love and pleasure, with harm to none, are acceptable and sacred, we generally have no problem with gay relationships.

(Also, Buddhists have a long history of religious tolerance... but I'll leave that explanation to the Buddhists.)

There is a Huge Difference between Religiosity and Spirituality: example= Religion is a guy sitting in Church that is thinking about going Fishing.

Spirituality= is a Guy that is Fishing and Thinking about God!

There is over 3,000 different religions and cults all with different doctrines and man made teachings, these religions also differ from each other concerning their teachings what you can do in one church is a sin in another, the major doctrines they teach are thought of by men and assumed it was written by God. In our last war the first Bush war every minister I seen on TV or on the street condoned our troops to go off and fight it when the Jesus whom they profess to serve said love your enemy. They have become lawless by letting children that Jesus loves be abused and try to cover it up, they have lined their pockets with money from the poor so they can live in million dollar houses. Religion has led mankind to it's own death and she does not know the way out, she has become a problem!

Religion originated out of fear during the vedic period...religions is actually a kindergarten from where we have to graduate gradually the wars and conflicts are not due to religion but because of our lack of understanding of religion and religious concepts...religion was not created by god..it was humans who created it..and then scriptures...were written..whether its holy "Bible"..or Gita..or Kuran..they were all written by humans at some point of time...

time has changed..so we need to modify those teachings also..for ex...Kuran has mention that muslim guys can go for 4 wives..Kuran was written in Prpt. Mohamad's time..and now if you are going to follow that blindly..it doesnt make any sense..we need to modify things with changing time...

The religious upsurges are because of our lack of understanding of essence of religion and exploitation by political leaders for thier benefits...

so we need to understnd all this and take religion and religious practices in right spirit...
