I don't really, really, really, really, really hate my mother-in-law but she does irk me pretty badly at times. It's probably a good thing she lives three hours away (driving) and she fears traveling on the highways. LOL!

Awww....man sorry to hear that......but i realized that most not all....mother-in-laws are fighting to hold on to their kids.....them being married means they have to let go.....and sometimes they can be downright disgusting...but having said that i wish i were married and had a mother-in-law to dislike.....lol.....keep your chin up...

I feel for you, bro! I hate my mother in law too. We (my fiancee and I plus all our friends) think her mom's really bi-polar but doesn't want to admit it.

It's so bad that whenever they want to do something with us I decline and find something else to do while my fiancee goes to see her parents. I haven't really talked with her parents for the better part of a year.

Hey look at it this way..at least you don't HAVE to like or be friends with your mother in law if you don't want to! You don't have to answer to anyone besides your wife!

My mother in law is really snooty, she has never given my children nothing more then $5.00 for birthdays and Xmas

Yet she has a wardrobe with tags still hanging on the clothing and is constantly buying things from the shopping channel (for herself)....I don't like her selfish ways and whenever you talk to her its all about how depressed she is and she wants a better life and blah blah blah. She never asks How we are doing?

I can not say anything about a mother-in-law but most of the women I dated had good to great mothers except one. I loved her and her two kids but her mother, if I had stayed with her there may have been a murder. One of us would have killed the other.

Your spouse is the person they are either because of or in spite of her.

If it's "because," then try to see her good qualities and remember we all have faults.

If it's instead, look at how he or she deals with her and try to do the same.

If she's a "broken" person, know you can't fix her and just be civil. It takes two people to argue and fuss. When her head spins around and she starts speaking trash, just try to say something disarming and change the subject. "Oh, that's an interesting thing to say. Did I tell you how sweet your son was last week? He (insert some random act of chivalry here.)"
