Or is there such a thing? You know, treat them like human beings, put barettes(spell?) in their hair, paint their toe nails, braid their hair, etc?
I don't do it.
What do you think of people who 'over' pamper their dogs?
I think it is kind of sick.
I have a beautiful sweet boxer boy - and he is the light of my life, but at the end of the day, he is a DOG. Sure, he gets homemade treats, sleeps in bed with me, and has twice daily walks, but that line of 'pampering' still treats him like a DOG. I would never dress him up - he might bite me! (joke) The most I would ever do is put a bandanna around his neck.
I do joke about him being my 'boyfriend', but at the and of the day, he is just a very happy and well treated animal who doesn't forget that he is a DOG.
I think that animals that are treated like human children are unhappy - that, and badly behaved. This is because dogs are essentially pack creatures - they are followers. They feel most comfortable when they know who their alpha is, and what their place in the pack is. When is dog has no rules, and is allowed to think THEY are in charge, you have lost any control you ever may have had. The dog is confused and unhappy becuase it doesn't know who it's leader is, and the owner is frusterated because they can't get the dog to obey anything they tell them.
Also, a lot of times when people are treating dogs like human children, they are compensating. Younger people will compensate for children they want but aren't ready to have, and older people will compensate for children they never had, or are grown up. It is truly sick to project that onto an animal. People forget that dogs are one of the highest forms of animal, but for pete's sake, they are still dogs.
What do you think of people who 'over' pamper their dogs?
I think it's ridiculous, but tolerable. What I find obnoxious are those who spend $1000 on a damn dog bed, or a fancy kennel built to look like a mansion, and which costs more than most people can afford as a down payment on their own home.
What do you think of people who 'over' pamper their dogs?
coz they have no other wrk 2 do.....i think they suck man....
What do you think of people who 'over' pamper their dogs?
I firmly believe that they have no idea of what a dog is, nor do they care, and I also know that they are the biggest reason why we have so many dogs dumped at the pound with behavioral issues that will never be fixed.
What do you think of people who 'over' pamper their dogs?
I think people that do it to an extreme are compensating for something.
I don't think the simple act of putting barrettes in a dog's fur or occasionally having them wear a shirt is overdoing anything.
It's the people that cannot take their dog out of the house without it dressed to the 9's, and the people that never let their dog walk, they carry it everywhere like a baby (or have it in a doggy purse), those are the people that I think are over the top.
A dog needs time to be a dog.
But I'd rather see an overly-pampered dog than one that is starved and beaten. Extremes either way aren't healthy though.

I don't do barettes, I think the toenails paint is silly but it is all okay as long as the dog is properly trained and not a brat or vicious.
