okay, so i've been doing some research on the portrayal of women in the media, by the time i got to "psychology of shaving" odd question came to mind: Does the social expectation of body/facial removal amongst women relate to pedophillia? think about it: the only time humans have no body or facial hair is in the prepubescent stage (infancy/childhood). as we enter puberty, humans grow more teminal body hair.

What I find interesting about this question and many of the answers to it is the emphasis on what the MAN wants, as if women exist only within the context of satisfying other's expectations.

If that's how women base the bulk of their decisions, I suppose they're free to do that, but what a sorry existence to lead.

This is a common trait I see in explaining women's choices: that they are in fact, not really their own choices, but an attempt to satisfy others or to conform in some way. Apparently, for women, there must be some sort of power in powerlessness.

It is not a pedophilia thing. Trust me. Some women just like to feel clean. Their husbands like it too. It doesn't haven anything to do with anything perverted.

Personally, I think it does. Shaving the legs started in the States around the 1920's, when women started going swimming in things that no longer resembled long dresses.

Of course, some may argue that this just makes her look cleaner, or makes her skin smoother. OK, I guess that could be true for some. But personally, I think a guy who insists that his girlfriend "take it all off" from everywhere has issues. If it's just for fun or a simple preference, fine. But if it's "mandatory" for him? I'd say he needs some time on the Psychiatrist's couch.

LOL... right on, Shivers. Why is always the hairy guys loudly proclaiming how they expect a one-night stand's "area" to look? How obnoxious!

I think it's related to pedophilia. I think it's sick that a guy, or a girl for that matter, would want to have sex with someone that looks 10 years old down there.

To correct some of you, during oral sex you won't get pubes in your mouth unless the person has some kind of hair loss condition. The hair doesn't come out that easily. It is also not any cleaner.

Women should do what is comfortable for them...and I bet that would probably mean not shaving. A guy who lets you be yourself is a much better catch than one that dictates how you groom yourself. The same goes for men that feel the need to shave down there. Plus why would a guy wanna risk cutting his scotum sac? It's not comfortable! That's why I said forget shaving down there forever!

I find it interesting that women are being told what is expected with how their cha-cha is supposed to look, but the men who dictate in this fashion are probably the hairiest guys around.

Personally, I do what is comfortable for me, not because of someone elses preferences.

Edit: Well with other bodily hair, I don't think it'd have anything to do with paedophilia interests, more that it's cultural and the norm for women to have smooth legs and underarms. I can't imagine not having the epilator handy for those areas, don't wish to go around scaring little kids now,lol. Am a brunette, so have naturally dark hair.

There are many many factors at work here, some of them being accidents of cultural history.

For example, paintings of the nude often had little or no body hair, though this varies with the historical period. And that includes men as well as women.

The reason: hair was difficult to portray in sculpture, unless it could be portrayed in "clumps". This TECHNICAL issue then influenced the norms in painting, where there is no such limitation. The classical models (mostly sculpture which survived from the ancient world) influenced the aesthetic ideal.

That's just ONE factor, but there are many others. Could pedophilia be among them? Probably. But that too is just one aspect of a complex phenomena.

it is cleaner cause when someone has a vasectomy or some operation on genitals, they have to shave completely because of the risk of infections. it would also be weird when giving an oral and then you would have pubes in your mouth.

I do think think our society is youth-obsessed, and that partly contribute to the shaving debate.

I feel pressured to shave, most guys say they prefer it, and it's not uncommon to hear that pubic hair is gross on a woman, especially with the college aged crowd, which I fall under.

I shave, but I am *this* close to trimming. And if a man has issues with it, he should completely shave, then I'll consider it.

I would rather look at a clump of human body than a clump of hair that looks like any other hair.

Troll Shark makes an excellent point in that women, even today, are conditioned to do what pleases SOMEONE ELSE. This trend started in the porn industry as a fetish, and suddenly women are adopting it as a grooming habit, because they believe it's what men want. Never mind what THEY want.

People remove their body hair because it is so uncomfortable. Body hair makes people scratch and that is unsanitary. Body hair also traps body odors, body sweat, germs, and bacteria so it's hygenically to remove body hair.

If men worked in the prepared food industry, they have to shave their faces, remove all their hair off of their arms because hair sheds and falls all over, which would end up in food and drinks which is gross!

During menstruation women get that unfresh, unclean feeling so they would feel so much better when they don't have any pubic hair.

I don't believe anti-perspirant would even work if it's been applied on to hairy armpits.

Men who ride bicycles have to shave their legs, because riding their bicycles with all that hair is uncomfortable.

Hair sheds, do you really want anybody's body hair shedded all over your home?

Would you eat any food if there's someone's body hair in it?

Would you drink any beverage if there's someone's body hair floating around.

Besides, I can't imagine any guy feeling fresh and clean if he had a thick, dirty beard, especially when disgusting things like flies, mosquitoes, other insects, dust, dirt, and grime being trapped outside and on the inside.

Plus, when they eat, food, such as soup it slurps all over that nasty looking beard.

I just like my face smooth, then I'm more gentle. and it is more better and cleaner "down there". but women dont shave or wax completely. they still leave a "bush". I also wanna wax my body but because I just dont like hair, not because I wanna be 10.

and its better if pedophiles learns self-control and have sex with adults that wax or shave completely. rather this than girls and boys in pain. after all those years my friends are still suffering.

First off. Mine does not look ANYTHING like a 10 year old even when it's shaved bare. That'd be one special 10 year old, yikes. Imagine if it kept growing as he got older (ouch for the ladies).

And, a shaved female area down there looks great. Feels smooth (which is great). And, is much cleaner in the way of fluids/moistness (good if your face is going near that area).

I don't demand ladies to be shaved bare down there, but if you want oral from me, it better be.

On a side note. Humans have clothing now. We don't need all of the hair we needed before warm/protective clothing was invented.

Perhaps for a few sickos it has something to do with pedophilia. But for most, it's just a preference.

I get the hair on my head cut, too. Why? It looks better that way.
