How do you think I should handle these women at work ?

Human resource seems to be afraid to approach these women .Its not just me they hassle but many just give up when they realize HR is afraid to approach them . They decide that they should be the judge in your life.

1) Because I am native south American with a mix of chinese ,German portugese and indian .I have long straight hair oriental eyes and came out with a darker complexion than the rest of my immediate family .Which of course is no cause of alarm with my parents lol...as they know my mom has indian and native indian in her ancestory .As my dad looks chinese and my mom and sister Hispanic they have questioned if my family is not RASICT against me ! How ridiculous! They have tugged my hair to make sure its not hair extensions! And told me I should be dating a black man instead of being married to an Italian...Like I said they have not just harrassed me !! They have also approached a Jamaican guy and insulted him for not dating in his race and ridiculed his girlfriend for taking

Have a tape recorder and tape the harrassment. Take the tape to HR and to your superior and play it for them. If they don't do anything about it, tell them you are contacting a lawyer. Talk to a labor lawyer and find out what your rights are in your state. Harrassment is illegal.

Can't you just nip this in the bud?

Just come down on them so loud and hard that they are chicken to ever broach the subject again.

Make them take the long way around you.

Have you yourself approached human resources about this? What about your manager? Someone should absolutely step in. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated. Next time stand up for yourself and tell them they are being rude and that they had better settle down.

Well I guess it depends on where you work. If you work at a company that is pretty large, then you they usually have an employee hotline you can call to make complaints. Also, if it is a larger company then there is usually a district and regional manager, I would bring it up to them. If not and this is just a small business I would talk to your boss. If he/she does not do anything about it, and it is bothering you that much, I would either quit and find a new place to work after making a scene with them (nothing out of control, just basically giving them a little taste of their medicine -- ask them what gives them the right to judge everyone -- ask them what is so messed up in their life they have to harass everyone to make themselves feel better). If this does not sound like good advice I guess I would probably just ignore them and smile when they say something. I just wouldn't communicate to them. When they ask for your help or advice I would also just ignore them. If all else fails, file harrassment through the police. Hope everything goes well.

Reverse psychology ignore them. Stick to your work and do no wrong with the boss. If it persist over a few days then tell them to stop as you are offended then simple if it continues go to doctor and get time of. The boss will have to deal with it. You could consider legal action if you feel serious unlawful comments been made etc......

Document everything! Report it to your supervisor. If your supervisor does nothing, then report it to their supervisor. Make sure you do so IN WRITING. Contact a lawyer who will offer free consultations.

Do not fight fire with fire however, though it may be tempting.

One thing that disturbs me is that they are actually pulling your hair. Once they touch you, it crosses the line and they are not just committing assault, but it is now battery. You CAN press charges. The documentation will help your case.

Contact EEOC, Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint processing at 800-649-4000.

Make sure to have ALL of your ducks in order: all racists comments, physical contacts, demeaning looks all lined up with a sentence or two describing each act and then a witness or two around that can corroborate. For example, your diary would read:

October 7, 2006 - At 2:30 pm Sherry W. said I should ask my dad if he was, "Racist against his own family for making kids that look as 'unique' as we do." Witnesses: Mike D., Warren L., and Tina S. This was by the water cooler and we all have to use our pass card to get into the room so there's a computer entry of us all being there at that time.

To hell with your HR department have the Federal Govt. start asking questions you'll see diversity training very soon.

Sounds like HR or the higher ups (maybe the matter needs to be taken to them instead) need to just take the easy route and just fire them. Work place harassment is illegal, and the physical contact makes it worse. Technically it may be a situation where someone could be able to seek legal action if they chose to, especially since the company seems to act like they are condoning it when they have already received complaints, even if they don't mean to.

Sounds like there's some serious hatin' going on. That and the fact that your HR sucks! No one should have to put up with that, especially at work. Its the law and they need to deal with it.

Even thought America is considered a melting pot, some people prefer not to mix because they fear change, fear losing themselves, or are just plain racist. Minorities can be racist too (which I find difficult to comprehend, as I am a minority myself). Most of the time, they think its easier to pick on someone else rather than face their own issues.

I'd contact HR and put it in writing. If they won't do anything about it, they're just as responsible for the bad work environment. I guess you'll just have to decide if this is a fight you want to pick.
