Why do women, shave their legs, and other parts of their body?

Well, I was wondering, why we women, shave our legs, arms, and other parts of our body. I don't think women ever use to do that, and who invented it anyway? I mean, we are mammals, shouldn't we still be considered sexy even if we have hair on our legs or other body parts? Sometimes I think people are really caught up in how they look and trying to get that specific "Image" that the society has invented. When we were in ancient times, we didn't shave our legs or anything. We just left it alone, like we should be doing. Yet the pictures they have in the history books, have no hair at all. They look like modern humans, just with cowskin as clothing. Instead of the latest suffocating jeans and revealing shirt. If anyone can answer me about this, that'd be great. Thanks

It's mostly Americans that do that - and I think it's because we're very conscious of B.O. We are obsessed with smelling good. Most of us have no idea what we smell like unless we have gone camping and got to a "ripe" state..... HAH.....

Europeans and other cultures many times have hair - and the men there find it very sexy..... so it's all cultural..... We Americans are overkill on lots of things - wish our culture would 'relax' just a tad.... yah know???

Animals in the wild do things to attract the opposite sex in order to find a mate and reproduce.

In society, there are still animal traits everyday. Shaving our legs just became one of those things women do to help attract a mate. Some women dont do it, and thats up to them.

Same thing with dressing nice or smelling good. It's all about finding a mate to reproduce, thats just what our bodies and instincts tell us to do.

I personally do it because i dont like how it feels or looks on me. I dont like hairy legs or other parts of my body and if you leave hair under your arms it is just gross to me and smells bad..

I shave because of two things.

Its annoying... If you don't shave you hair gets pulled and it Huuurrrtsss!!! Its Embarrassing and Gross, I mean things of a guy getting carpet burn from rubbing your legs! I think its a part of civilization and we should take advantage of it. Now if we didn't shave we'd probably complain about not being able too!!!

it is due to gender socialisation where society carve out roles for women and every else complies or be labelled a deviant. like how men used to wear stockings, times have evolved and people have to comply to that because it is the norm. :/

well, I cannot talk for other people but in my particular case I shave because I simply don't like having hair on my body. It's anesthetic, ugly, it's not good for sports... imagine yourself in a beautiful sleeveless red dress and lots of hair appearing from under your arms, on your arms and chest... good God!

Nevertheless I'm a Latin European citizen, from Portugal ( the sun's almost always shining with great beaches),... hair on your body??? NO WAY!

As time has forged us into an era where both men %26amp; women shave certain body area's, for different reasons, I used to shave my testicles because it tuned my gf on, she shaved all her hair off except her head everyday, more feminine %26amp; hightens the touching sensation, especially during intercourse.

Body hair, especially in pit and groin areas, traps sexual odors. That is why both men and women have this hair. However, in our society, this hair is considered masculine, We may be primal mammals at base but I must admit I also consider this hair masculine.
