There's falwell, phelps and his scummy losers always protesting because of gays and all the homophobia from the pope - both of whom are sharing the same attuitude! There's so much hatred, intolerance, stupidity and pick'n'choose christians so what do you think?
Too many pick and choose the bits to believe but they ignore facts and reality, there are contradictions but many will ignore them, I've incllided a few which get ignored, Leviticus gets quoted to endorse homophobia yet they are ok to ignore shellfish now
Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests Deuteronomy 17:12
Kill Witches Exodus 22:17
Kill Homosexuals Leviticus 20:13
Kill Fortunetellers Leviticus 20:27
Death for Hitting Dad Exodus 21:15
Death for Cursing Parents Leviticus 20:9
Death for Adultery Leviticus 20:10
Death for Fornication Leviticus 21:9
Death to Followers of Other Religions Exodus 22:19
Kill False Prophets Zechariah 13:3
Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God Deuteronomy 13:13-19
Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night Deuteronomy 22:20-21
Death for Blasphemy Leviticus 24:10-16
Paul also support the oppression of women (e.g. 1 Corinthians 14:34 - 35), and he accepted slavery as a normal social practice in (Philemon 1:15 to 16
T Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other specific Biblical laws and how to follow them.
a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness (Lev.15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. If I come into contact with a woman who is menstruating and she doesn't tell me until afterwards, must I kill her immediately or can I just beat her?
d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? Also, is Sabbath on Saturday as Seventh Day Adventists (Christians, like us...or are they?) or is it on Sunday as Baptists and some other faiths agree? I am beset by not knowing who to kill and when to kill them...please clarify this for me.
f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality (Lev. 18:22). I don't agree. I'm also confused about how homosexuality can be an abomination when Jonathan and David were married in the Bible (1 Samuel 18:1, 3 - 4). Here, I'll quote it - "And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword and to his bow and to his girdle." and also Ruth's relationship with Naomi is suspect, (Ruth 1:16-17) "And Ruth said to Naomi, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part three and me." Can you settle this?
g) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27 and even though 1st Cor. 11:4-6 says that it is a shame upon a man to have long hair. How should they die?
i) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? Also, since it is strictly forbidden to "eat neither fat nor blood" in Lev. 3:17 %26amp; Lev. 19:26, does that mean that I must be a vegetarian and must I smite those who choose to eat meat?
j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev.24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?
k) I know that it is an abomination for a man to wear a woman's clothes or a woman to wear a man's (Deut. 22:5), so does that mean that since my wife borrowed my boxers once, she's going to hell?
l) An unbeliever sent me an email telling me that God is an ABORTIONIST? It says, "In Num. 5:11-31, God commands a husband to get an abortion for his wife if he suspects she has been impregnated by another man. A priest is to make her drink a potion and tell her, "If any man other than your husband has had intercourse with you, may the LORD make an example of you . . . by bringing upon you miscarriage and untimely birth." To deliberately cause a miscarriage is to perform an abortion. And who brings about this miscarriage? Who performs this abortion? It is the LORD who does so. God is an abortionist. In Ex. 21:22-25, God tells us what to do if a man who is fighting knocks against a pregnant woman. If the woman dies, the principle of "life for life" is invoked and the man responsible for her death must be killed. If she lives but has a miscarriage, then the death of the fetus is to be compensated for by the payment of a fine, as demanded by the woman's husband. Thus, God has revealed the status of the unborn fetus: it is not an independent, full-fledged human life, whose destruction amounts to murder. It is a thing owned by the woman's husband, a thing whose loss, like that of any other thing, may be compensated for with money." How can this be true?
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging and also for the reassurance that the Bible is infallible.

Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
You are quoting the Old Testament and somehow attributing that the Christianity.
That is a Jewish Document which was superseded by Jesus.
Read the New Testament
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
They are not so much morally corrupt as they are spiritually bankrupt!
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
Thank you very much for the great research you did regarding the controversy of the Christian Religion.
The late Chines communist leader Mao Tse-Tung said,
'Religion is the opium of the people'. You can use and abuse religion in whatever way you want to. GOOD JOB!!!
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
Someone once admitted to me that they post real long postings so no one can answer. True or not ?
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
All of those are from the old Testament, all of which Jesus abolished and brought and taught the new law. When some people were enforcing the old law when dealing with a morally loose woman, he said those with out sin cast the first stone and all even the elders, walked away. We Christian follow the teachings of Jesus. Jesus taught us to love one another, and teach the Gospel to all nations. Not to kill any one who doesn't agree with us. Jesus is the lover of peace.

Why single out Christianity as an opiate? All religions provide two main lines of comfort to people in a chaotic and uncertain world - the first of these is the promise of life after death in one form or another. Death scares people. The solution? Simple - life after death (reincarnation is just a variation on this theme). Don't worry of you have a bad time/are a bad person in this life, you will get another chance/be forgiven. Don't worry if your child dies horribly from some agonising and evil disease - it is God's plan and they will learn from this experience/sit at God's right hand in heaven where you will meet them again. And so it goes on.
The second is it provides certainty and rules. The world we live in is poorly understood and horribly random. The Universe is immense and much of what happens in our lives makes little sense. This is especially horrible for us because our brains are hard wired to find patters and reasons for everything. If we have rules laid down by God and an explanation that we are "special" in the eyes of this creator, our smallness and insignificance in the Universe doesn't scare us. The random cosmic sucker punches that floor us are just part of God's unfathomable plan - but don't worry, he has our best interests at heart, so we're safe. We feel that there is purpose and meaning (even though in reality there is none other than that which we provide ourselves).
Both of these key fears can be used to pacify and control people - the message from the rules is effective in its simplicity "be careful or we'll take away immortality (or you'll come back as a dung beetle, or roast on a spit in hell and so forth)". It seems to work pretty well - we have people fighting wars over this stuff and money pours into these multi-billion dollar a year businesses (e.g. the Vatican), some are even happy to strap explosives to themselves or allow their children to die for want of a blood transfusion.
To the poster who said that all the above quotes are from the Old Testament - true, but don't you find it funny that most of the hard line Christians have little to say about Jesus other than his being "the son of God" and focus most of their effort on Old Testament? Is that because all Jesus ever preached was love and kindness, so demonstrating at Heath Ledger's funeral because he had the temerity to play a homosexual/bisexual male in a movie fits better with Old Testament thinking than the New?
I think most of us have twigged that this post is really meant as an ironic critique. It's pretty obvious to anyone who is prepared to actually THINK about it - as opposed to swallow the dogma in one, undigested bite - that the books of the Bible, as a text, are full of contradictions. Worse, as a book of rules by which to lead your life they are an abomination - slavery, murder, incest are all seen as perfectly legitimate courses of action.
As someone who doesn't believe in God, leprechauns, unicorns or the Loch Ness monster, what it says in the Bible is irrelevant to me other than as a model example of how easily people can be fooled, and fools separated from their money.
(Note to "Christians", don't bother telling me God hates f a g s. You might as well tell me that Humpty Dumpty hates us - I don't care.)
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
Oh, Chester, Chester, wish I had the time to answer your post point by point...
Jerry Falwell is dead...homophobia sucks but is only a very miniscule part of the Bible, and I also dislike pick-and-choose Christians...
The shellfish thing has been resolved in the New Testament, so go ahead and enjoy shrimp and scallops, as I do.
I am too tired to refute this whole thing point by point, so I will not try. I will turn it over to a good friend who has more energy than me---kudos to you for your research...Brian
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
yes!! the answer is yes!!!, and a home for homophobia and bigotry and hate to be directed at anyone who does not believe or any other religions that are not christian
Is Christianity the opiate of the Morally Corrupt?
Excellent question and information! The problem with those who use the Bible to justify homophobia is that you cannot pin them down. They will always have an excuse as to why they can ignore whatever part of the Bible they want, yet never question the parts they use to justify their sin of homophobia.
Isn't it interesting how most will say something like, "The Old Testament no longer applies. Christ fulfilled the law with His own blood and we are now under grace." Yet, these are the very same people who use Leviticus over and over and over to revile gay people. Apparently, to them nothing in the OT applies except the two verses they use to attack gay people.
